<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Die vierköpfige Besatzung startete am Freitag, dem 13. Februar, um 11:15 Uhr MEZ mit einer Falcon-9-Rakete vom Kennedy Space Center der NASA in Florida. Nachdem sie etwa 34 Stunden lang die Erde umkreist hatten und die Internationale Raumstation eingeholt hatten, bereiteten sich die Mitglieder der Crew-12 auf das Andocken vor. Die Erstflieger Sophie Adenot und Jack Hathaway, beide mit Erfahrung als Testpiloten, nutzten diese Zeit, um sich mit dem Leben und Arbeiten in der Schwerelosigkeit vertraut zu machen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Nachdem die Luken geöffnet worden waren, wurde die Crew-12 von dem NASA-Astronauten Christopher Williams und den Roskosmos-Kosmonauten Sergei Kud-Sverchkov und Sergei Mikayev begrüßt, die seit ihrer Ankunft mit einer Sojus-Kapsel im November 2025 auf der Station sind. Sophie Adenot von der ESA und Jack Hathaway von der NASA erhielten anschließend in einer kurzen Zeremonie ihre Astronautenflügel von Stationskommandant Sergei Kud-Sverchkov. Die Crew-12 bedankte sich auch bei den Teams der NASA und SpaceX für den reibungslosen Flug und brachte ihre Vorfreude auf die bevorstehende Arbeit zum Ausdruck.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Bereit, die Wissenschaft voran zu treiben</strong><br>Mit Sophie an Bord hat die εpsilon-Mission offiziell begonnen. Mit einer geplanten Dauer von bis zu neun Monaten wird εpsilon die bislang längste ESA-Astronautenmission sein. Während ihres Aufenthalts auf der Station wird Sophie als Crewspezialistin sowohl für Columbus, das europäische Labormodul, als auch für Kibo, das japanische Wissenschaftsmodul, tätig sein.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sophie wird bis zu 36 Experimente aus Europa durchführen, darunter sieben, die von der französischen Weltraumagentur CNES speziell für die εpsilon-Mission entwickelt wurden. Die an Bord der Station durchgeführten Forschungsarbeiten decken ein breites Spektrum wissenschaftlicher Bereiche ab, von der menschlichen Physiologie über die Klimaforschung bis hin zu Technologiedemonstrationen. Sie sollen dem Leben auf der Erde zugutekommen und zukünftige Erkundungsmissionen unterstützen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Start</strong><br>Der Start von Crew-12 ist für Donnerstag, den 12. Februar, frühestens um 11:38 Uhr MEZ vom Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, geplant.<br>(Anmerkung der raumfahrer.net Redaktion: Eine weitere Verschiebung aus Wettergründen ist möglich)</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Die ESA und die französische Weltraumagentur CNES veranstalten gemeinsam zwei Live-Übertragungen – eine auf Englisch und eine auf Französisch – rund um den Startzeitpunkt. Die Teams haben ein exklusives Porträt von Sophie Adenot und Nachrichtenberichte über die wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten vorbereitet, die sie im Orbit durchführen wird. Außerdem werden sie Live-Interviews aus dem Kennedy Space Center führen mit:</p>
